THE HISTORY OF ARMORED CAR SERVICES

Early transports were caravans with armed employees. Even Spanish galleons were armed with cannons to battle would-be thieves on trips to the New World. Later, stagecoaches eventually become common. They had been outfitted with reinforced lockboxes while guards ‘shotgun,’ literally carrying a shotgun for defense. This is the source of the colloquial term now shouted to secure rights to front passenger seat.
World War 1 saw the first military armored transport. Tanks, armored personnel carriers, as well as an armored Rolls-Royce were created in the 1910s for the new kind of military combat. Armored cars allowed for cellular anti-aircraft guns as well as for safe movement of valuable cargo. The achievement of these vehicles directed a Chicago company named Brink’s to beginning armoring school buses for carrying currency from the 1920s. The Brinks armored bus has been followed by a Model-T full of armed guards.
Many parts of these early armored cars were made of vulnerable substances. Through time, the substances used in armored transport have changed from wood and glass to more durable and bullet proof material. It’s hardened by heat treatment or by the inclusion of chromium and nickel through production. Windows are made from thick automotive glass and bulletproof optical plastic.
